Vision for Learning and Teaching

Vision for Learning and Teaching Document

St. Kevin’s School provides an environment in which the development and growth of the whole person is encouraged. Meeting the needs of today, and focusing on the future, we aim to provide the highest possible standards in curriculum, communication and community contribution, all centred on our core focus of Christian values.

Christian Values

Within our Catholic community we encourage students to embrace and develop their God-given gifts, and to shape and enrich our changing world, by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Communication

The interaction of learning and teaching enables students to be self- reflecting and self-directed learners. St. Kevin’s School strives to provide opportunities to:

  • Supply explicit and frequent feedback to students and parents/carers.
  • Promote self-reflection to confirm and affirm teacher and student judgments about the quality and depth of learning.

Community

Learners at St. Kevin’s School are guided and encouraged to:

  • Develop their personal values and attributes.
  • Facilitate the capacity to form and maintain healthy relationships.
  • Take responsibility for their own actions and contribute positively to society.
  • Become responsive to and respectful of a society which is socially, culturally and religiously diverse.

Curriculum

As life-long learners our school community plans to consistently provide students opportunities to explicitly and creatively make meaning of their world.

Teaching and learning at St. Kevin’s School is characterised by our drive to:

  • Plan with a deep knowledge of students, class profiles and syllabus documents.
  • Engage students in relevant learning opportunities that challenge, inspire and make connections to their world.
  • Respond and relate to the needs of all students.
  • Foster nurturing and life-giving learning environments.
  • Hold high aspirations and expectations of learners.
  • Provide a range of learning experiences that are well-informed by research.
  • Encourage and stimulate students to play an active role in their learning and be creative, resourceful and innovative.
