Music and Languages

In the specialist Music and Languages program at St Kevins, once a week, students get the opportunity to learn a variety of language skills in Japanese, Auslan and Yugambeh through music. This is an exciting program where students engage in percussion play, singing and music appreciation activities, whilst exploring and learning about cultural customs and core language skills. Having lived in Japan for a number of years and being a passionate music teacher, it has been exciting to develop a program that incorporates these two learning areas. Auslan is Australian Sign Language and Yugambeh is the Indigenous language of the Gold Coast region, so it is beneficial and an inclusive experience for the students to have exposure to these languages too. The students bring home a portfolio with a summary of their learning activities at the end of the year, so feel free to chat with your children about their learning experiences in Music and Languages.
